Runaway Saints are the new guys in town, but the road here was long and winding.  Originally from Providence, Rhode Island and now living in Nashville, TN, the guys have tried to blend both of those worlds into the sound and songs on their upcoming debut album.

Having all met in high school, Johnny Gates, Jamie Jarbeau, and Matt Scanlon, traded in the traditional next step of college, for a van and trailer and hit the road touring up and down the east coast.  Always playing original music, the guys started to save up their cash and eventually start recording in studios around Rhode Island.  That music would eventually find the ears of local managers and promoters, who opened doors to bigger shows and more listeners.

Runaway Saints - Biography

Knowing they were serious about this dream, the guys started eyeing Nashville and sent a random email to producer Nathan Chapman (Taylor Swift).  By the time Nathan wrote back, the guys were making the 18-hour drive to his house to play a set for him in his living room. Shortly after that trip, they were making another one back to Nashville, but this time there was a moving truck involved.

Fully taking advantage of what Nashville does best, the guys signed a publishing deal with Warner Chappell, and began writing.  Most days were being spent co-writing in the publishing houses on music row or jamming with friends at home studios around town.  Taking what they learned in Nashville, the guys made a few writing trips to Los Angeles, and came back with more songs and a sound all their own.

“We've been writing a ton of new songs on the road which is a new thing for me,” remarked singer/guitarist Johnny Gates.  “It's been really exciting to be inspired by a specific location and immediately write a song.  Most of the album we’re creating has songs written all over the country, Nashville, LA, NY, North Dakota, D.C....it's truly a look into our lives at this exact moment and it's the most honest I’ve been as a songwriter.”

Taking songs from their Los Angeles and Nashville sessions, the guys pressed their own self titled EP, and hit the road on their first ever US tour alongside artists like Jonny Lang, Moon Taxi, and Johnnyswim.  The tour concluded in a special first time show at The Troubadour in Los Angeles.

Now back in Nashville, Runaway Saints are finishing up working on their debut album, which they plan to release next year.  The band already has dates on the books for early 2015 and they'll be right back out with the van and trailer.  And frankly, they wouldn't have it any other way.
